Living
on Mission – Moved With Compassion
“As
soon as Jesus heard the news, he left in a boat to a remote area to be alone.
But the crowds heard where He was headed and followed on foot from many towns.
Jesus saw the huge crowd as He stepped from the boat, and He had compassion on
them and healed their sick.” (Matthew 14:13, 14)
Oh,
Jesus! He had just learned the dreadful news that his cousin, John the Baptist,
had been beheaded. He needed to get away. He was not in the mood to be with
people – even His closest friends. He wanted to be alone so much that he got in
a boat and sailed away. Alone.
Can
you imagine how He felt when He stepped off the boat and saw a huge crowd of
needy, clingy people, each wanting something from Him?
This
is precisely when amazing, abounding, overwhelming love kicked in. This is when
He was reminded of the reason He was on the earth. He was moved with compassion
and He reached out and healed these lost and hurting people. Real love, God’s
love, is always flowing outward. It cannot be contained or reserved for private
use.
I
long to be filled with His love to the point where I care more about others
than my own desires. I know that the only way this will ever happen is to be
constantly in His presence, to be so close to Him that I can hear the cry of His
heart.
Let’s
practice Living on Mission and allow our time with Jesus to transform us to the
point where we are filled with His love and moved with compassion.
