Ephesians 4:17-32
Mark 8:35, “For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me and for the gospel will save it.”
Have you ever noticed any of your Facebook friends one
minute posting how much they love Jesus and how grateful they are for His
blessings and then the next moment they are cursing up a storm and threatening
someone’s life? It may not be that drastic,
but most of us struggle at one time or another with consistently living a life
that reveals our love for Jesus.
In our Ephesians passage this week, Paul tells his readers
(and us) that we are to, “be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put
on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness”
(Ephesians 4:23). We are to be made new
in Jesus. It’s like taking off old
clothes and putting on a new wardrobe.
Taking off the anger, the deceit, and the lust and put on love, caring,
peace, and patience.
Jesus tells us in Mark 8:35, “For whoever wants to save his life will
lose it, but whoever loses his life for me and for the gospel will save it.” Jesus also desires for us to completely “lose”
our old way of life and become more like Him every day. This doesn’t just effect our Sundays. It effects our Monday through Saturday as
well. Because we are saved through
Jesus, everything should change; the way we spend our day at work/school, the way we budget and spend money, the way we spend
our leisure time, and the way we post on Facebook!
This week, I encourage you to evaluate every area of your
life. How have things changed since you
have come to know Jesus as Lord? What
old ways of life are you holding on to?
Maybe it’s time to let it go and “put on the new self, created to be
like God in true righteousness and holiness”!!
Blessings,
Pastor Amy
