Living
on Mission – The Gentle Act of Patience
“Be
humble. Be gentle. Be patient. Tolerate one another in an atmosphere thick
with love.” (Ephesians 4:2 The Voice)
Sometimes
I walk around in an atmosphere thick with love. Other times, not so much. How
about you? How would you describe the atmosphere you dwell in most of the time?
Does that atmosphere change the minute you see that person who gets on your
last nerve? (Full disclosure: mine does. In a hurry. Not in a good way. I’m a
work in progress – we all are.)
Oh,
how the world needs us to show patience in the gentle manner of Jesus! Patience
with them, patience with one another, patience with our kids. Gentle patience
in the manner of Jesus is a beautiful thing that we need more and more of in
our homes and workplaces.
“…I
plead with you to walk holy, in a way that is suitable to your high rank, given
to you in your divine calling. With tender humility and quiet patience, always
demonstrate gentleness and generous love toward one another, especially toward
those who may try your patience.” (Ephesians 4:1b, 2 TPT)
Paul
tells us how to show this gentle patience – even with the challenging ones in
our lives: walk holy. The ESV translation says “walk in a manner worthy of the calling
to which you have been called.” And we know that the only way we can do this is
in His power. We have to be filled to overflowing every day with the Spirit of
God. That will also provide the “atmosphere thick with love,” won’t it? So let’s
do this. Let’s get filled up and powered up and get out there to walk in gentleness, humility, patience, and love.
Let’s practice Living on Mission through the Gentle Act of Patience.
