Living on Mission as the Over-the-Top Party Guest

Living on Mission as the Over-the-Top Party Guest

John 2:1-12

Imagine the scene… you are at the wedding of a family friend’s child when *gasp* they run out of food before all of the guests are served dinner. You kick into high gear and, with the help of another friend who happens to be a caterer, supply an even tastier feast than the bride and groom had planned AND you do it before they even know there’s a problem. Boom! Party saved!

This is basically what Jesus did at the wedding in Cana. He blessed and saved the couple from embarrassment by going over the top as a guest and providing better stuff than they had actually planned. Important note: He didn't seem to have any special connection with the bride and groom; He was a regular wedding guest. He just happened to find Himself at a wedding party that day. (Lucky for the couple!)

Think of the influence that we could have if we behave as He did and serve people like crazy wherever we go.

If we serve people in need wherever we find them, what message does that send to people? What does that say about the God that we serve?

Jesus brought life to a wedding party where He happened to find Himself. Where do we find ourselves every day? Can we bring life to our team at work? Can we serve someone in a way that's over the top? What about our neighborhood school? What if we provided an over-the-top response to the needs we see in our city?

Let’s do what Jesus did – serve people out of a heart overflowing with holy love.

Let’s practice Living on Mission and be the best, most surprising “party guests” everywhere we go.

P.S.

Our very own Julie Shreves is serving in Ecuador with Extreme Nazarene Missions in just a few weeks. What a perfect time to be an over-the-top helper as the country is reeling after a devastating earthquake. Could we chip in to help fund her time there so that she can go and bring the love of God to these hurting people? The deadline is May 1st, so please call this number today to donate. Any amount would be really helpful. Thank you, Friends! (800) 326-9235
