Beginning on Sunday we will be diving into an in-depth look
at the Joseph story. Beginning in
Genesis 37:2 and continuing through the end of the book (Genesis 50:26), the
Joseph story is considered a short story or a Novelle. This story progresses
the themes of the Pentateuch (the first five books of the Bible) by revealing
the gradual fulfillment of the promises God made to Abraham in Genesis
12:1-3. We begin to see how God blesses
the nations through Abraham’s descendants.
God is with Joseph from the beginning, making known His plan
by giving Joseph two dreams where his brothers and parents bow down to him. We see Joseph elevated, not by chance, but by
God to positions of leadership where Joseph allows God to work through
him. Many lives are saved through God’s
Hand and Joseph’s obedience.
The Joseph story links for us the history of the patriarchs
living in Canaan and how they came to settle in Egypt. We see the foundation for the twelve tribes
of Israel in Joseph and his brothers.
Joseph can also be seen as a model for all believers. We must die to ourselves in order to make
peace with those around us.
Plan to join us for each installment of this exciting
journey over the next eleven weeks as we work through the account of Joseph. This story is filled with many twists and
turns, but God is at every intersection!
Blessings,
Pastor Amy
