FAMILY IT! — Wednesday Family Devotional — “Third Anniversary”

Supplies: noise makers (optional)

I am so excited that this Sunday we get to step back and celebrate the wonderful tapestry that is Point of Change.  It is so easy to get caught up in the day-to-day or week-to-week experience of church life.  We think about it from the view in our seat or from our place in a ministry team.  We get familiar with our own niche that we often forget what the big picture looks like.  When I step back, I am always awed at how God has taken the threads of so many different lives and families—sometimes drastically different, and brought them together, weaving them with love and grace, into an amazing church family.

The Orwigs were not a part of the PoC launch team, although we knew most of the them.  My husband, Chris, had been a part of Bloomington First, our commissioning church, before moving north to Peru.  In my years as a youth pastor and then senior pastor on the district, I had build friendships with most of the PoC leadership.  We rejoiced with our friends as they shared the wonderful things God was doing at this new church plant.  We prayed for them as well, since we had “re-planted” our church in Peru.  I had no idea that less than a year later, God would lead me to step down from full-time ministry to be a homeschooling stay-at-home mom.  (Seriously—NO.  IDEA.)  With little else in the way of direction, Chris and I both felt a tug to worship with our friends at Point of Change.  We saw it as a chance to become a part of a church that already felt like family.  We would rest and find renewal after our church planting years and see where God would lead us.

Ha.  The answer was in the question.  That was two years ago, and God has created a blessed home for us in Bloomington/Normal.  I’m able to fulfill my call to be a homeschooling mama of two precious children, while also fulfilling my ministerial call as I serve PoC as Administrative and Children’s Pastor.  My passion has always been teaching kids, and now I get to do it seven days a week!  I love worshiping and connecting with your children each Sunday alongside the amazing PoC K.I.D.S. team.  I also have the privilege of getting to know new attenders and helping them get connected at PoC.  I am so grateful that God wove us into Point of Change!

I encourage you to take time with your family this week and reflect on your own place in the PoC tapestry.  Share with your children about why you decided to be a part of the PoC family.  How did God lead you here?  What happened to let you know this was where he wanted you to be?  What do your kids like about being PoC?  How has God changed you and your family since leading you to Point of Change?  Dig into your New Year’s supplies, pull out some noise makers, and celebrate all that God is doing in and through you at PoC!  Then decide who you’re going to invite to celebrate with you this Sunday!!
