Living on Mission with Joseph, Right Where He Was Supposed
to Be
Joseph was thrown into prison after being falsely
accused. While Joseph was in prison he
was perfectly positioned to interpret the dreams of the cupbearer and the
baker. This imprisonment eventually led to him being remembered as an accurate
dream interpreter when Pharaoh had a dream that his own interpreters couldn’t
figure out – but he was in prison for a long time.
Was Joseph where he was supposed to be as a prisoner?
After Joseph interpreted Pharaoh’s dream and gave him a plan
for how to deal with the coming famine,
Joseph went from a stinking prison to living the high life. Pharaoh
put Joseph in charge. He gave him a sweet ride. He gave him new clothes, a ring,
a gold necklace {{Bling}}, a wife, and a whole new life. Now, whenever Joseph
looked at his sons, he thought, God has caused me to forget…and God has made me
fruitful in this land of my grief. He was blessed.
Was Joseph where he was supposed to be as Prime Minister?
Soon the expected famine was upon them. Hungry people. Needy
people. Everywhere!
Pharaoh said, “Go to Joseph, and do whatever he tells you.”
(Genesis 41:55) Amazing. God again had
Joseph right where He wanted him. The
years of pain and misery were not for nothing. Joseph was perfectly positioned
to serve and to save the lives of the Egyptians and others who ran out of food
because of the famine.
If Joseph had not had his heart and his ear bent toward God
as both prisoner and Prime Minister, what would have happened to all of those
people?
So, was Joseph where he was supposed to be when in prison or
when he was made prime minister? Or both?
Our sovereign, loving God knows exactly where He wants and
needs to place us. Let’s trust Him to position us right where we need to be,
and keep our hearts and ears bent toward Him whether we are in a miserable
place or a place of blessing.
Let’s practice Living on Mission, trusting God to place us right
where we’re supposed to be!
