God wants YOU to influence your city. In Daniel 3, we read about how God was able to protect and provide through the faithful actions of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. This in turn influenced the leadership of city. Nebuchadnezzar was completely sold on his god...a golden statue... so much so that he decreed everyone should worship it or be put to death. However, after witnessing what occurred in the furnace, Nebuchadnezzar acknowledged that the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego was so AWESOME that he did a complete 180 and decided their God should not be spoken against.
So... how do we "pray it", PoC?
In our daily life, we're going to run into people (family, friends, co-workers, community members...) who seem sold on something... just like Nebuchadnezzar. Maybe they are staunchly committed to not believing in God. Maybe they firmly believe that church is irrelevant in the life of a Christian. Perhaps they are sold on the idea that pornography has no harmful repercussions. Or that forgiveness is impossible. Or that life has no hope or meaning, and things have no way of getting better.
It could be tempting to skip over prayers for those who need a major 180 in their lives. Especially when it seems like they are not going to budge. Especially when it is not just for one or two people, but for an entire neighborhood or community.
But, as faithful prayer warriors, we know from Daniel 3 that our God can move through his faithful and obedient children to catch the attention of others, which can result in transformation
As we come together and "pray it", Daniel 3-style, consider praying for a yielded heart, surrendered to God, trusting in Him and His provision. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego did not know how their circumstances were going to turn out. They did not have to know in order to obey. They trusted God fully and did not flinch.
Then, consider praying for your "community" - family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, city, state, country, world... do not let the seemingly impossible circumstances or unwilling-to-budge attitudes deter you from prayer.
Let God be an attention-getting God. He cannot move through you if you do not let Him. When he moves through you, watch out! Others will see His character and His love. Transformation is an attraction event!
"I the LORD do not change. So you, the descendants of Jacob, are not destroyed. Ever since the time of your ancestors you have turned away from my decrees and have not kept them. Return to me, and I will return to you," says the LORD Almighty..." Malachi 3:6-7a (NIV)
Jesus,
I believe that you have called me to be a light in my city and to have influence among leaders in my nation. Make my life a prayer to you so that others will find hope in Jesus.
Amen.
